Living Authentically: A Pride Month Story
Celebrating Pride Month with Arthur White
At A.G. Rhodes, every team member brings a unique story. This Pride Month, we are honored to share one rooted in authenticity, resilience, and love.
Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Arthur White, LPN, Education & Wellness Manager at A.G. Rhodes DeKalb (formerly A.G. Rhodes Wesley Woods), has spent his life living openly, not because it was always easy, but because he learned early on the importance of accepting himself. “I believe that God is love,” he shares, “and that each of us is created with purpose and value.”
After moving to Atlanta over 20 years ago, Arthur found not only a new home, but a lasting partnership. What began as a friendship grew into a strong, loving marriage built on shared values, commitment, and care for others.

In 2016, Arthur’s life took a profound turn when his sister passed away from lupus, leaving behind two young sons. Honoring a promise made to her, he and his husband stepped in to raise them. Today, both young men have graduated from high school and college and are thriving in their careers. “Raising my nephews was one of the greatest honors of my life, and seeing the men they’ve become makes me proud beyond words.”
Throughout his journey, Arthur has also built a meaningful career in healthcare, spanning decades of service from CNA to nurse. “I love being a nurse,” he says. “It allows me to care for people while doing something that truly fulfills me.”
At A.G. Rhodes, he has found a workplace where he feels supported and valued for who he is. “I don’t feel any separation here,” he shares. “I feel supported in this company in who I am and in what I do.”
That sense of belonging extends beyond staff interactions to the elders he serves. Whether sharing stories about his husband or everyday life, those conversations are met with warmth, curiosity, and respect, creating meaningful connections across generations.
While his journey hasn’t been without challenges, particularly navigating differing levels of acceptance within his family, Arthur’s perspective remains grounded in self-worth and purpose. “Love, commitment, and character, not stereotypes, define a family,” he says.
This Pride Month, his message is simple and powerful:
“Love yourself. Live your truth. And surround yourself with people and communities that celebrate you.”
At A.G. Rhodes, we are proud to be one of those communities.
