Employee Spotlight: Roschelle Hughes, Social Services Assistant, A.G. Rhodes Cobb
Roschelle Hughes’ career is a testament to compassionate service and lifelong learning. Since starting her career in 1998 as a CNA, she has worn many hats in various roles. And while working in different positions at A.G. Rhodes, she has also made impressive strides in her professional development, earning her associate’s degree in business management HR, graduating from A.G. Rhodes’ Leadership Development Program, obtaining her med tech certification, and now she’s back in school pursuing a nursing degree—all while working full-time.
“I started at A.G. Rhodes in 2012 as a CNA,” she said. “Then I became the unit clerk, filled in at the front desk, and eventually became the receptionist. After that, I became an admissions coordinator, and now I’m a social services assistant.”
For Roschelle, this is more than just a job; it’s a calling.
“You’ve got to have the passion and the heart for it, and you have to have empathy,” she said.
Roschelle’s calling to serve others was shaped early in her life.
“I helped take care of my grandmother when she was sick,” she said. “I was with her until she passed. I was her caregiver at the end.”
Roschelle’s commitment to others continues both inside and outside of the workplace. In addition to her role at A.G. Rhodes, she volunteers with a nonprofit that works with youth. She says she aspires to set an example for the young people there.
“They know me as Ms. Roschelle, the volunteer coordinator, and when they read my bio and see all the things I’ve done—CNA, med tech, going back to school—they ask questions. It motivates them.”
A.G. Rhodes Cobb Administrator Jovonne Harvey says Roschelle is the kind of team member that every organization hopes for.
“Roschelle shows up with heart and drive every day. Not only does she go above and beyond in her job, but she’s always eager to learn and grow, which is an inspiration to her peers and others who look up to her.”
And while Roschelle juggles work, school, family and volunteering, she credits her success to careful planning—and a lot of support from her family. Her motivation? “My faith and support of my family,” she said. “Mostly my daughters. I want them to know that with education, you can go a long way—and it doesn’t matter what age you are.”
When asked for advice she’d give someone entering this field, she was quick to answer: “Make sure this is what you want to do. You have to have patience, faith, and flexibility—you have to have the heart for it.”
Roschelle’s journey is far from over and she expects to finish nursing school in a few months. Once she finishes, she says she plans to continue doing what she loves; serving the elders at A.G. Rhodes.
“The best part of my job is seeing them smile, and listening to them tell their histories. There’s just something about it.”
