‘Pride in my Work’, A.G. RhodesEmployee Spotlight: Elizabeth McCrae, Laundry Supervisor, A.G. Rhodes Atlanta

When Elizabeth McCrae walked into A.G. Rhodes Atlanta 39 years ago to inquire about CNA job openings, she was told they didn’t have any but that they had an opening in the housekeeping department. Elizabeth had been working as a CNA for 15 years and assumed that she didn’t have the experience required for a housekeeping position. She walked out, but when she got to her car, she second guessed her assumption.

“I got to my car, and then I turned around and went back inside. I asked, ‘Is that like keeping up your own house; your bedroom, your bathroom? When they said yes, I said, ‘Well, I got that down pat.’”

It turns out, Elizabeth really enjoyed working in housekeeping. Today—nearly 40 years after she walked into A.G. Rhodes— she is the Laundry Supervisor.

A.G. Rhodes Administrator Loretta Barnes says Elizabeth goes above and beyond to make residents—especially those who are new to A.G. Rhodes—feel at home.

“When elders join our community, Elizabeth decorates their rooms before they arrive,” Loretta said. “This is such a meaningful touch in helping to make a big transition more comfortable.”

Elizabeth says she takes special care in treating elders’ belongings and spaces as if they were her own.

“I take pride in my work,” she said. “If it were me and I go into a room, I want it to look nice.”

With nearly four decades at A.G. Rhodes, and over a decade prior to that working as a CNA, Elizabeth says she was called to this field early on in her life.

“I took care of my dad, and I took care of my mom, and it was just a calling to do that.”

Elizabeth says there are a couple of key qualities that have helped her excel in this line of work.

“You come in with a positive attitude, your day is going to be good. And, you’ve got to be a people person. If you’re a people person, you can get along with anyone.”

Elizabeth says she plans to keep doing what she’s doing for as long as she can.

“I enjoy what I’m doing. I just enjoy working at A.G. Rhodes.”
