Volunteer Shows Elders How to LEGO and Have a Good Time, A.G. RhodesThanks to volunteer JP York, A.G. Rhodes is adding a new activity to its calendar: playing with LEGOs.

LEGOs aren’t just for kids; they are popular with all ages, and are increasingly being used in senior care settings as another opportunity for older adults to exercise their fine motor skills along with their creative muscles.

“I like it because I need it to make my hands work,” said A.G. Rhodes elder Lee Svensson. “It’s fun; I enjoy working with them.”

Elder Pam Parr agrees: “I like to do things with my hands, and I like to make up stuff as I go along.”

JP says he’s always loved playing with LEGOs, and he comes from a family that has been volunteering in nursing homes for years. He saw an opportunity to bring his hobby to the elders at the A.G. Rhodes homes, and the verdict is out: This activity is built to last!

“If you make a mistake, it can be corrected,” said elder Beverly Green. “It’s just fun; it gets your mind off the serious things.”
